My story starts over 9 years ago when I started a successful shave ice operation from a small stall at a local market. Since then I've grown with two bespoke purpose built food vans and a fixed shop located on the beach. What this means for you is that not only do I sell three of the world's finest shave ice machines & the finest concentrate flavours (Hawaiian Snow) I also use them. Experience counts!

Q. Why don't you show prices on the web site for the ice shavers?

Thank you for the question on pricing. I don't show prices as the ice shavers icludes freight & insurance delivered to your door. As I don't have your delivery details this is why there is no price shown. I can say that the typical range of price is from AUD$850 ex GST to AUD$4,200 ex GST depending on what ice shaver you are wanting. Once I know which ice shaver you require I provide you a price that is very competitive AND if you link it with a package further savings can be made.

Q. Why should I buy from you, when I have seen the ice shavers from overseas suppliers?

Great question. I can understand that as a consumer you want to get the best quality at the best price, however if you choose to buy international there are "gotcha's" that you didn't expect! These experiences can lead to frustrations that you didn't need to have. Frustrations such as
1. Do you know the ice shaver is to Australian electrical standards?
2. Are warranty issues handled locally and downtime options available?
3. Hidden extra cost from foreign currency exchange plus duty plus GST plus importation handling costs (fees, port cost, document cost etc)
4. Delay in delivery due to double handling and sourcing
5. Is the ice shaver really at a commercial standard.

As the Australian distriubtor for Hawaian Snow, Swan, Hatsuyuki & Fujimarca you don't have any of those concerns as I am based in Australia with the manufacturers warranty, support, service/parts and I hold stock.

Q. Those Flower cups, do I really need them?

This question is a great question about appearance and marketing. Flower cups, clear biodegradable, Lily cups and Star cups all add a special touch & feel to your customers experience. You would have a competitive advantage by using these types of cups when matched next to operators who stick to plain styrenne. The shave ice businesses using these report that customers are more willing to pay a bit more for the flower cups.

Q. Concentrate Flavours v's RTU (Ready to Use)?

Thank you for this question. There are differences so let's clear this topic up. Concentrate flavours are in liquid or powder form and are used in making the Ready to Use flavour bottles. It's a concentrate so there is a special formula in its making which includes natural & some artifical ingredients. I prefer the liquid form of concentrate as it delivers a superior taste over powder form. Concentrate flavour has a longer shelf life up to one year and some a bit longer. Ready to Use (RTU) as it's name suggests is for use immedately and this makes its shelf life limited. Typically without preservatives or refrigeration, the shelf life is one week. The main difference is in cost. Concentrate syrups make up to thirty RTU flavour bottles so you have more control over stock and usage.

Q. Should I sharpen the ice shavers blade?

Thank you for such a practical question. I suggest that you don't sharpen the blades. Most ice shaver blades have a designed bevel edge so any re-sharpening could damage this bevel and the blade would not shave fine powder like snow. The best practice to replace the blade with a new blade.

Q. What does tempering of the Ice Block do?

Great question about tempering the block ice. Once the ice comes out of a freezer it needs to melt (temper) for it to be at the perfect consistency for clinging together once shaved into fine layers. If you have ever been in powdery snow you would know that it just doesn't stick together until wet. Once the ice is tempered and shaved you also will notice that the flavour is held into the ice strands.

Q. Why are Snow Cones called Shave Ice?

This question is one of those that send chills down the spine of any authentic shave ice operator. The term snow cone is used in error. Authentic shave ice is a fine powder like shaved ice made into a ice ball. Snow cones have traditionally been a chipped or cracked ice not made into a snow ball. Its a very different product.

Q. How much shaved ice is used in the flower cups and how much flavour do I pour on the ice ball?

Your question is in two parts and is a great question often asked by beginning shave ice operators. Both are equally important so I will break them into two questions that need answers. A1. The shaving of the ice into the flower cups is determined by the operator using the ice shaver so there are many variations in performance and actions. No one standard is perfect so I have a rough guideline below. A2. The amount of flavour poured onto the ice ball is also determined by the operator and the size of the ice ball made. So again there are many variations and no one standard is perfect so I have made a rough guideline below.
Flower cup 4oz --> 280ml of shaved ice --> 100ml of flavour
Flower cup 8oz --> 560ml of shaved ice --> 200ml of flavour
Flower cup 12oz --> 840ml of shaved ice --> 300ml of flavour

Q. Should I use a spoon or spoon straw?

Great question about what tool to use to consume a shave ice. I suggest you use a spoon straw as it consists of a spoon end (great for scooping out the shaved ice) and it doubles as a straw to suck out the last liquid in the flower cup. A bonus is that the spoon straws come in very bright fluro colours so you will always variety. My recommendation is to use the spoon straw that it completes the product.

Q. Can my ice shaver be used for making 'Snow Ice'?

Perfect question on the use of the ice shaver. In case other readers haven't heard of the new trend in milk ice (snow ice) it is a delicious dessert made like an ice cream but it's main ingredient is milky ice shaved just like the clear ice. The end result is topped with fruit, creams of all flavours and boba (popping juice ball) plus jellies. All the ice shavers I stock (Swan, Hatsuyuki & Fujimarca) are perfect suit for snow ice shaving.
